実用的な単語ですよね。

"I can't believe it"でもよいと思いますが、個人的には"unexpected" を使いたいです。"unexpected"の方がなんとなく柔らかい感じがする...

あまり使いたくないフレーズですが、便利なので覚えようと思い

"back to square one"

振り出しに戻る、一からやり直し

We thought everything was settled, but now they say they're not happy with the deal, so we're back to square one again.
すべてが上手くいったと思っていましたが、彼らはこの取引に
満足していないと言っているので初めからやり直します。

If he rejects our offer we'll have to go back to square one and start the whole recruitment process again.

使えそうな表現です。

He stuck his neck out for the deal because he thought he could make some big money.

ロブに対しては忠実でいたいんだ。彼は前回のミーティングで僕のためにあえて危険を冒してくれたんだ。

"take a risk" も同じ意味です。
